Brief History


The bifurcation of erstwhile Royal Technical Training Institute (RTI), Rinchhending; Phuentsholing. Through Royal Government of Bhutan directives to maintain regional balance of the TVET Institutions and realizing the socio economic development, Technical Training Institute, Chumey was established in the year 2006 at Domkhar, Chumey under Bumthang Dzongkhag. The Institute is under the direct administration of the Department of Human Resources, Ministry of Labour and Human Resources.

Initially the institute functioned with seven instructors and 232 trainees in six different Occupations (Carpentry, Electrical, Masonry, Plumbing, Tailoring and welding) within the area of 5.49 Acre. The institute was then headed by Mr. Kinley Wangdi, the present Director of Department of Human Resources.

In 2010, the Institute was further reformed into central of Excellence offering courses in construction sector only. At present the institute is spread over 30.672 Acre with 198 trainees, 29 staff including Management and Support staffs. The Institute has also introduced higher level regular courses based on the National Competency Standards (NCS) and nonformal training. The Institute is also registered Technical Vocational Training and Education (TVET) provider in the construction sector.
